The first release of DocTabs. Every open Word, Excel and PowerPoint file becomes a tab in one bar, so you never have to hunt for a window again.
Tabs
- Every open Word, Excel and PowerPoint document appears as a tab in one bar.
- Click a tab and that file’s window comes straight to the front.
- Files with the same name show their folder, so you never open the wrong one.
- Drag tabs into your own order, and DocTabs remembers it.
- Close a file right from its tab. If it has unsaved changes, Office asks whether to save them.
- Double-click a tab and its × turns into a magnifying glass. Click it, and Finder opens the file’s folder with the file selected.
The bar
- The bar appears when Word, Excel or PowerPoint comes to the front, and steps aside when you switch to another app.
- It shows the files of the app in front. Choose All Documents to see all three apps in one row, with a file count for each.
- Pin the bar to keep it on screen over any app. While pinned, it takes the color of the Office app you last used.
- Drag the bar anywhere and set its width with the grip. Let go past a screen edge, and it glides back in.
- The bar never gets narrower than your first tab, and a soft fade on the right tells you when more tabs are hidden.
- Click « to fold the bar into a small DocTabs logo. Click the logo to bring your tabs back.
Menu bar
- Hide or show the bar, or put it back in its original place.
- Choose whether DocTabs opens at login, checks for updates automatically and shares anonymous usage data.
- When a new version is out, DocTabs asks before installing it. Check any time with Check for Updates….
Languages & privacy
- Nine languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Mongolian, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese. DocTabs starts in your Mac’s language, and you can pick another in Settings → Language.
- DocTabs uses only the names and locations of your open files and never opens what’s inside.
- No account, no sign-in, and free for everyone.
